Iced Tea Latte with Star Anise

Iced Tea Latte

We are in the month of February. It is supposed to be SPRING SEASON, but I am already getting a feel of how summers will be.

In a matter of few days we will be looking for ways to cool down and breathe a sigh of relief.  So, just in case you are obsessed with tea, but a hot cup is not luring you.  Go ahead make an Ice Tea Latte !!

This recipe is minimum effort maximum payout.  You can make the base concoction and keep it refrigerated and use it anytime you want to.  You need to simply add chilled milk, whipped cream and a hint of cinnamon on top of it.

(Do check out the handy tips at the bottom of the page for topping options.)

This can be made in two ways :

Cold Steep :  You can leave the tea bags in water at room temperature for a few hours.  The best part of this method is that the tea stays mellow and smooth even if you forget about it for a while.

OR

Hot Steep :  Boil the water and put the required number of tea bags for 5-10 mins.  Remove the tea bags and cool the tea blend to room temperature before refrigerating.

As for sweetener, you can either use sugar or honey.  Suit yourself.

Top off your glass of the ice-tea with required amount of milk as per your liking then top it up with a whipped cream and your Ice latte is ready.

Check out the super simple FUN recipe :

ICED TEA LATTE

Ingredients :

For the base tea

  • 4 tea bags of chai
  • 1 liter water
  • 5 tbsp of honey or sugar (or as per taste)

To serve

  • Milk
(I like to use whole milk, but almond milk, or coconut milk all taste good)
  • Whipped cream
  • Ice cubes
  • Cinnamon powder

Method :

Steep the tea:

  • Add 4 -5 tea bags to a jar of 1 liter water. Cover and cold steep at room temperature for at least 3 hours. The tea will become stronger and more infused the longer it stands.
  • Once the tea has infused to your liking, remove the tea bags. Add the honey / sugar and mix well till it dissolves. The base tea is ready. Allow to cool, then cover and refrigerate until needed (it can remain for a week to 10 days).

To assemble an iced chai latte:

  • Place a few ice cubes in a glass. Fill half the glass with the infused tea.  Then add as much milk as you like.   Stir to combine and taste.  Top the iced latte with whipped cream and a hint of cinnamon or cocoa powder.

Handy tips:

1. You can use any good quality black tea to make this.

2.  You can spice up your tea, by adding star anise, cloves etc while brewing.
But remember to use the hot-steep method for this.  (as mentioned above)

3.  You can take your tea to the next level with delicious additions and toppings
like chopped nuts, caramel sauce, grated chocolate, cinnamon or cocoa powder.
