Easy & Quick King Fish Rava Fry

 

The King Fish Fry or Surmai Fry as the locals call it, is the most loved appetizer and rightly so.

The fish is 80% fillet and has very few bones.  The preparation for the fish fry is also done in a jiffy and still ends up tasting so good.

All the fish eaters will agree, that the Surmai or King Fish fry is a treat in a sea-food platter that they do not want to ignore.   All hands will reach out to it instantly.

Let’s learn this extremely easy and done in a jiffy King Fish Fry with handful tips at the end on this page.

Easy and Quick King Fish Fry

King Fish Rava Fry (Surmai fry)

Ingredients :

  • 4 large Kingfish slices
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 tsp red chilli powder
  • Vinegar 1 tbsp (or lemon juice)
  • ½ tsp tamarind paste (optional)
  • Rawa (fine semolina, as required)
  • Oil (for shallow fry)

Method :

  1. Clean and cut the King Fish (Surmai) in thin slices
  2. Prepare the marinade by mixing turmeric, salt, tamarind paste, vinegar and red chilli powder.
  3. Apply the marinade over the fish carefully and leave the fish to marinate for 30 mins.
  4. Heat a shallow pan with oil (I have used Coconut oil)
  5. Coat the fish slices with semolina (rava) and fry the fish till golden brown.

It may take 5 mins on each side depending on the size of the fish slices.

Handy Tips : 

1. Use medium flame to fry the fish, to ensure it cooks evenly.
2. If you do not have vinegar handy at home you can use lemon juice instead
3. In case, you have prepared extra marinade you can store it in a zip-lock bag for your next use.
4. While frying do not flip over the fish till it is thoroughly fried on one side, else it may break.
5. You can add fresh curry leaves to the oil while frying the fish. It  gives a great flavour.  (I do it most of the times)
